1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using ged2json.com ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

ged2json.com provides a free online tool for converting genealogy files between GEDCOM and JSON formats. The Service includes:

  • Web-based file conversion interface
  • Public API for programmatic access
  • Family tree analytics and insights

3. User Responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Only upload files you have the right to convert
  • Not use the Service for any illegal purposes
  • Not attempt to circumvent rate limits or security measures
  • Not upload malicious files or attempt to exploit the Service
  • Respect the intellectual property rights of others

4. File Handling

  • Uploaded files are automatically deleted within 5 minutes
  • You may delete files immediately using the "Delete Now" button
  • We do not retain copies of your genealogy data
  • Maximum file size is 50MB

5. API Usage

If you use our API:

  • Anonymous users: 50 requests per hour
  • API key holders: 500 requests per hour (or as specified)
  • API keys are for your use only and should not be shared
  • We reserve the right to revoke API access for abuse

6. Intellectual Property

  • You retain all rights to your genealogy data
  • The Service, including its code and design, is our intellectual property
  • The ged2json.com name and logo are our trademarks

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. We do not warrant that:

  • The Service will be uninterrupted or error-free
  • Conversions will be 100% accurate in all cases
  • The Service will meet your specific requirements

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL.

You acknowledge that genealogy data is sensitive and agree to maintain your own backups of any data you upload to the Service.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

10. Modifications to Service

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without notice. We may also update these Terms from time to time.

11. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service at any time, without prior notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
